The Knox camera is the darkest of the five. Most nights it is a black rectangle with one smear of headlight far off at the top and that is the whole show, that is Knox. I like Knox because nothing happens on it. A camera where nothing happens is a control. You need a control or the record means nothing. I learned that the expensive way with the trucks (the truck pages are still up, I keep everything, that is the point of a record.

Tonight there is a ring of blue light low in the frame, down in the black where the ground is. I circled it so nobody can pretend they dont see it. There is no pole there. No house, no reflector, no glass. Not the moon... the moon does not sit in a bush at 12:02 in the morning. And I know lenses flare, I knew about flares before any of you did, but a flare needs a source, look at the frame, the only lights are half a mile up the road and they are white. White lights do not make a blue ring. they dont. My father kept a blue bulb on the porch for moths. Anyway.

The honest cameras run six seconds behind. Six. Which means the blue thing is not history, the blue thing was THERE, present tense, sitting in the dark while I watched, and 257 up the road is running twelve minutes ahead, I did that math in the ledger, I did it three times. Somewhere in some building a frame of 12:14 already existed while the road was still at 12:02. Rehearsal. That is the word I keep landing on and I am not happy with it but I am not the one who made it true. The frequencies flagged this stretch in March and I filed it under maybe. Tuesday I refiled it. no. it was tonight, its almost 5 now so tonight. Refiled.
