The Thirty-Two Minutes

field note only, no photo, just the three receipts side by side on the counter

The gas station receipt says 4:47. My phone says I left the house at 4:11, I checked it against the lock screen twice before I let myself get upset about it. Thirty six minutes total is not a long drive to the Chevron on Foothill, its four minutes if the light by the school is green and its four minutes if its red too because that light only holds forty extra seconds and Ive timed it more than once, so where did the other thirty two minutes go. I dont mean I dont remember. I remember all of it. I remember pulling out of the driveway, tuesday, no, it wasnt tuesday, doesnt matter what day, and I remember pulling into the pump, and neither of those memories has anything sitting between them at all. No drive. No gap I can point to and say their, thats where it happened. Just two moments stitched together with nothing holding them apart.

This isnt the first time. Its the third, third that Ive caught anyway, and the ones you catch are never the only ones, thats not how catching works, a fraction catches you a fraction and the fraction tells you the size of what youre not catching. First time was the pharmacy in june, second was the DMV parking lot in july, and both times I told myself distraction, tired, not sleeping right, the normal excuses a person hands themself because the alternative is worse and nobody reaches for the worse one first. Third time you stop handing yourself excuses. Ive said this before on other pages and Ill say it again here because it needs saying every time it happens again: three times in four months is not a coincidence. Coincidence doesnt keep a calendar. coincidence doesnt pick the same kind of errand every time either, gas station, pharmacy, DMV, all three places where a machine timestamps you whether you want it to or not, all three places that KEEP A RECORD independant of my own.

My dad used to lose whole afternoons out at the workbench in the garage, hours he couldnt account for, Id ask him what he was even doing out there and hed just say fixing something, never said what, smell of solder on him the rest of the night. I think about that more than I think about my own thirty two minutes some nights, which I know how that sounds. anyway. the receipt says 4:47 and the receipt does not lie. machines dont lie, they log what they log, its people who tell you the gap didnt happen, its people on the phone saying maybe your clock was wrong, maybe you misread the pump display. I did not misread a number that mattered. I have never once misread a number that mattered.

check your own gas receipts if you dont believe me. pull the last three and put them against your phones location history side by side, see if the minutes line up the way they should, see if theres a stretch anywhere that doesnt add up to a normal drive at a normal speed. mine dont add up, three separate times now, and Im done calling that nothing. sorry for the wall of text on this one, I know it reads different than the truck posts, the truck you can at least point a camera at. this you cant point anything at except your own two receipts and the thirty two minutes between them that I still cannot account for. not tuesday. not any day. just gone.

CCTV 287 / SBD 10 EB PM R 38.494 / E/O Wildwood Rest Area / 08.04.26 20:54:07

Two fifty seven and two seventy seven. Twenty apart. I already put that in the record, the twenty pages are still up, im not retyping the whole argument, short version is sequential build out explains why two numbers sit close together and it does not explain why THOSE two are the ones that load first on a fresh tab before ive even touched refresh. that was the whole shape of it for exactly four days. then 287 loaded today. rest area, east of somewhere called Wildwood, I have never once heard a person say that name out loud in this county and ive lived here a long time, could be the exit sign is older than the town remembers itself being, doesnt matter. third time now one of these does that. no. fourth, I forgot the one from july, fourth. 287 minus 277 is ten, I did that one twice to be sure, ten, not twenty, and 287 minus 257 is thirty, so now I have three numbers and two different gaps and no shape left, which is worse than the twenty was, I dont fully know why, it just is.

Forty one cameras on the district page. been forty one since June. Three of them load first for me now, every single time, same order, 257, then 277, then 287, like theyre queued for something, and I called the district line again today and got a different bored man who read me almost the same script the first one did, sequential assignment, no significance to spacing, have a good afternoon, and I wrote that down too, because I write down what they tell me even when I already know its nothing. ESPECIALLY when I know its nothing.

The freeway in the frame is basically empty, couple cars, taillights already pulled into streaks the way a night exposure does that (thats the shutter, im not flagging the shutter, I know a shutter when I see one. the number im flagging is thirty eight point four nine four, thats the postmile on this one, R for reconstucted or realigned, I looked it up and forgot which. I dont have a use for that number yet. I keep a list now. I didnt used to keep a list of postmiles. thats new. thats this week.

anyway my neighbor had her cans on the wrong side of the driveway again, third time this month, unrelated, I only noticed because I was standing there refreshing the tab when I saw her do it. two things landing in the same ninety seconds isnt always something. I know that. I tell myself that. Coincidence. thats the word they want me to reach for. I dont reach for it anymore, not for three, not for four. I still have three tabs open. going to leave them that way.

Two Under One Light

02:55 — phone pic, stamp 7/27/26 02:55, scooter lot behind the old rental place, moon out maybe four seconds, two of them under the one light, not one, two

Found this going back through the folder, not from tonight, stamp says 7/27, 2:55 in the morning, and I dont know why it took me a month to actually look at this one full screen instead of just scrolling past it. The lot behind the old scooter rental has one working light and I have never once caught it lit with two people on it before. One. Always one, that's the count I've kept since March and I've kept it clean, and then this. Two of them standing under it, not moving, not walking anywhere, just standing the way you stand when you're waiting on someone else to say the first thing, and I remember sitting in the car with the windows up because the AC was still running from earlier and I didn't want to shut it off and have the click give me away. Moon was mostly behind cloud. Came out for maybe four seconds right as I got the phone up, four seconds and gone again, that's the only reason there's anything in the frame at all.

One of them left first, walked off toward the trees on the left side of frame, and I want to be careful here because I could be wrong, I have been wrong about this exact thing before and I said so on the alley pages, the walk pages are still up if anyone wants to compare gait side by side... but the foot turned out on his last step before he cleared the light, rolled off the toe instead of planting the heel, and thats not a coincidence I get to have twice in five months off two different men in two different lots. Unless its not two different men. Or it is two men and one instruction and I dont know which and Im done pretending the distinction matters to anyone but me. The second one didnt move for almost a full minute after the first was gone, just stood there under the one light like he was giving something time to happen. or being watched himself, cant tell which from a parked car forty yards out with a phone that wont hold still, my hands dont hold still anymore this late, thats not new, thats just true tonight.

TWO. not one. Ive said one for five months. Anyway, my neighbor put her trash out a day early again, third week running, the county doesnt even run that route till Thursday and shes out there Wednesday night every time, I dont think thats related, I dont think everything is related, I just noticed it walking back in past her curb. The scooter under the light wasnt his and it wasnt theirs either, its been parked there longer than either of them, flat back tire nobodys fixed, so thats not the tell, thats just furniture the scene came with. Im not going back to that lot tomorrow. I say that every time.

Seven Insulators, No Line

window, north wall, barn off the AB shoulder, seven insulators counted on site

The barn is out past where the county stops maintaining the shoulder, the pavement just gives up into gravel and nobody grades it anymore, I know because I've called about it, twice, different departments, got the same runaround both times. Window on the north wall, four small panes, paint peeling in sheets big enough to hold in your hand. Somebody ran wire across the glass on insulators, actual insulators, little yellow spools screwed straight into the frame, and I counted them because that's what you do, three on the left rail, four on the right, seven total, or maybe I have the sides backwards, doesn't matter which rail carries the extra, one of them does, and no wire that goes somewhere needs an odd number of anchors to get there. It's not fence wire and it's not a phone drop either, I checked, there's no pole anywhere near that barn a line like this could have come off of. It goes from the frame back to the frame. That's the whole circuit. I dont have a word for a wire that only talks to itself but I know one when Im looking at it, same as the boxes on the AB corridor with the three bolt panels I already wrote up, somebody out here likes things installed to a spec that only makes sense to them.

The mounts are old, rust bleeding down through the paint under every one of them, the kind of rust that takes a decade minimum. The wire isnt. Got close enough on the second visit to see it and the wire is clean, no pitting, no green where it wraps the spool, somebody restrung this in the last year or two over hardware that predates them by a lot longer than that. Thats maintenance, somebody is still doing upkeep on a line that by every other visible sign should be forty years dead and untouched, mounts rusted to that decade minimum and the wire between them clean as a hardware store spool, and I keep circling back to why anyone bothers keeping a dead thing alive like that. My grandmother kept a clothesline strung between two dead trees for thirty years after the trees stopped giving shade, just because the line still worked and taking it down felt like admitting something... anyway. Theres nothing to hang out here, just the wire and the seven points holding it and whoever comes back to check on it, and they only come when the barns empty, I know that because Ive been out there enough times now that I would have crossed paths with them by accident if this were random.

Seven insulators and no line running anywhere. coincidence. no. going back with the extension mirror to get a read on the wire gauge without touching it. dont email me about touching it. I know.

The Collar Came Back Clean

OMIT — dog collar, porch step, centered placement, condition inconsistent with eleven months buried

Buddy's been gone eleven months now and I still check the yard at night before I lock up, force of habit, the kind of habit that outlives the reason for it, and Tuesday the collar was on the porch step. Not in the yard. On the step, centered, buckle facing up like somebody set it down deliberate and not like it got dragged there by anything with teeth. I want to be clear I buried that collar with him, I was there, I put it in the box myself, so what's sitting on my porch step is either a second collar identical down to the worn spot on the nylon where his tag rubbed, or its the same one, and I am not going to pretend those are equally likely.

The vet who put him down retired the month after. Moved, I heard, though nobody's confirmed where and I stopped asking around March because asking around gets you the same shrug every time. That's one. The neighbor whose dog got into it with Buddy that last summer, the fight that I still think started whatever went wrong in him even though the vet said unrelated, unrelated, wrote it on the form twice like repeating it made it true, that neighbor sold the house in October. Two. I am not saying these people did anything to my dog. I am saying they are not around to ask about the collar and the timing on both of them leaving is inside a window I could draw on a calendar if I had to.

The collar was clean. Not new-clean, not store-clean, but clean like something wiped it down after eleven months in a box in the ground, and I know how a box in the ground actually treats fabric because I've dug up worse for worse reasons, dont ask. I brought it inside. Its in the drawer with the other one now, the one I never buried, the spare, and they dont match anymore, the spare's gone brittle at the buckle the way eleven months of a junk drawer will do to nylon and the new one, the returned one, bends like it was made last week. Somebody is telling me something and I genuinely do not know if its a kindness or a warning, and I've stopped assuming those are different categories of thing around here anyway.

I keep the porch light on now. Didnt used to.

The Shape Above the Heater

stain on the locker room wall above the heater, arms-up shape, blank-taped locker at the end of the row nobody can name

The depot has a locker room nobody uses anymore because the drivers change at the yard now, not here, but the door was propped open when I went in to ask about the Wednesday route again and I ended up standing in there longer than I meant to because of the wall behind the two benches. Theres a mark on it. Stain, burn, whatever the word is for what a wall does over time, and its shaped like something with its arms up, shoulders and both arms lifted, like it got backed against that exact stretch of drywall and thats the last position it held before whatever left the mark stopped moving. There's a pipe running along the ceiling right over that spot so fine, maybe its a leak, maybe its been dripping onto the same six square feet for as long as that heater has been bolted under it and nobody's ever looked up to notice. I looked up. I noticed.

Twelve lockers on the left, ten on the right, I counted twice because I dont trust a first count in a room I've never stood in before. Eighteen of them have a name on a strip of tape by the handle, first initial mostly, two or three full names, and four are blank, which is normal, people quit, lockers turn over, fine. But the one at the far end on the right, the one closest to that wall, has tape same color same length same handwriting as the rest and no name on it. Just tape. Somebody wrote a name there once and its gone now, or somebody meant to and never got around to it, and I genuinely do not know which of those two is worse and I am not going to pretend I've decided.

My mother kept a spice rack with the labels facing out even though half the jars were empty, she used to say an empty jar with a label still tells you what's supposed to go there. Anyway. I already wrote up the depot once, the missing time post, the numbers are still on that page if anyone wants to line up the schedule against whatever this turns out to be, I keep those dates on purpose so I dont have to keep retyping them from memory every time something else happens in the same building.

Nobody at the counter knew whose locker it was. Not lying to me, I dont think, actually didnt know, which is its own kind of answer when you ask enough people the same question and NONE of them have it. I asked three. Three for three. I am going back Wednesday, same as always, and I am going to stand in that room again and look at the wall again and I already know its still going to look like arms.

the man with the clipboard

The clipboard man was back this morning. That is four times in eleven days. four. Same circuit of the lot, same little motion with the pen at nothing, and he carries the clipboard facing out, which no one who actually writes on a clipboard does, you hold the board toward you, I carried one at the depot for two years so I know how a clipboard rides. The shirt says property management. I ran the company name spaced out, then abbreviated, then with the LLC on the end. Zero. Not thin, zero, and I have been running names since before the truck pages went up (the truck pages are still up, check those dates against these).

A real company leaves a smear somewhere. A permit. One angry tenant. My father kept every receipt in a shoebox with the year on the lid. Anyway. Eleven days is the lot interval too, I keep the times, the times are going on their own page. He never looks at the building. Not once. The pen isnt even clicked open.

IT LOOKED LIKE THIS BUT WORSE

This is the closest thing I have to a useful rendering and even this is wrong. the mouth is the only honest part of it. In person it had that half-finished look like it was still trying to decide how much of itself to show.

I do not mean a ghost exactly. I mean something that stood where a person would stand and wore the front of a face where a face would be, because that is easier for the eye to accept. it was less stable around the edges than this.

If I say it looked like smoke people hear smoke and that is not right. If I say it looked like a man people hear a man and that is also not right. It looked like this but worse.

The Forty Minutes I Cannot Place

dash clock read 7:32, phone matched it, no photo this time

I want to get this down here instead of explaining it again in six different replies later, because people always ask the same thing when the words missing time show up and I am tired of doing the polite version of the answer, there is no music sting, no soft fade to black, none of the show stuff, its a clock that says one number and a body that remembers a different one, and I have kept dates on this kind of thing since before this page even existed (the truck pages are still up, check the dates on those against this one, they line up closer than anyone wants to admit), so what happened this week is not new for me, it is just the first time I sat down and wrote the actual number instead of rounding it off in my head like I usually do. Wednesday, no, I keep saying Wednesday because the truck comes Wednesdays now, but the day itself is the part I cant actually swear to. I left the house at 6:10, I always leave at 6:10, alarm and everything, and the drive to the depot is eleven minutes, I have timed it more then a dozen times on more than one clock, and I got out of the car and the dash said 7:32.

Seventy eight minutes gone out of an eleven minute drive. Not almost an hour, an hour and eighteen, and I checked the dash twice because the first read felt like somebody's idea of a joke, second time it STILL said 7:32. Thats the number. Write it down if you dont believe me, I already did, twice, dash and phone both. My dad used to leave notes on the fridge in grease pencil, the kind that comes off if you press a thumbnail into it, so nothing he ever wrote lasted the week. Anyway.

They knew, I think, because the truck was sitting in the visitor row when I finally pulled in, a row that truck never uses, recyling logo half peeled off the door same as always, and the guy inside didnt get out, just sat there with the window up like sitting there was the job. Thats twice this month in that row. Twice. Coincidence, probably, except two times in one month in a row a vehicle has no business being in stops being a coincidence and starts being a route. Check your own dash next time an hour goes missing off a morning that shouldnt have room for it, see how close your number lands to mine, then tell me its nothing.

I dont sleep right the night after one of these and I know thats probably connected, the gone time and the not sleeping, knowing that doesnt make either one explain itself though, and sorry for the wall of text, I just needed the number written down somewhere that isnt only in my head for once. No photo this time. Didnt think to, which is its own kind of wrong given what I usually remember to do. Still havent found the eleven minutes the drive should have taken. Still looking at the dash.

They Keep Sending New Guys

no outage, ever, and still they come

Third crew this year on the same pole outside my house and every time it is a different face wearing the same vest. Not the same company even, or it says it isnt, one truck says a name I looked up and the number on the side doesnt match anything registered in this county, I checked, I keep the printout in the folder with the others. The pole does not need this much attention. A transformer gets serviced, what, once a decade, twice if a squirrel gets in there, and I have watched three different trucks park in the exact same spot, nose out, engine running, for going on eight months now. Eight months. Maybe nine, the folder has the dates if anyone wants to argue with me about it, I am not going to sit here and relitigate my own paperwork.

Here is the thing nobody wants to hear. If it was one company sending different guys because of turnover, fine, that happens, people quit, people get fired, I am not naive about the labor market. But they rotate the guys and keep the truck the same, or they rotate the truck and keep one guy, and it is never both changing at once and it is never both staying the same, and that pattern does not happen by accident, that is a pattern that is being managed, somebody upstream is making sure I never get a clean read on who is actually doing this. The new guy today did not even open the panel. Stood there. Looked at the house for longer than a pole justifies, then wrote something on a clipboard he never showed the pole.

They think because I am not a lineman I cant tell when someone is faking lineman work. I can tell. My uncle did this job for eleven years, I know what a real check looks like, it looks like a guy who is annoyed to be there, not a guy who is watching your kitchen window while he pretends to test a line.

Anyway. The dates page is still up if anyone wants to cross reference the trucks against the outages, there arent any outages, that's the part I want on record, no outage, ever, and still they come.

Same Minute, Every Night

20:54 — D8 feed, camera 101, I-15 NB at Glen Helen Parkway, PM 14.B11, glare and one low headlight, 20:54

Camera 101 comes up glare first, every time, before the road even shows through it, and I dont mean it comes up bright I mean it comes up at the same minute. Not close to the same minute. The same one. Fifty four past the hour, give or take the load time on the district's own page which I've clocked at eleven seconds average over nineteen tries, so call it 20:54 straight through no matter which night I pull it, and the car is already there when it clears, low sedan, one headlight sitting maybe four inches lower than the other like it was hit or built wrong, cutting close along the near lane every single time I look. PM 14.B11 stamped top left same as always. Glen Helen Parkway. I dont drive that stretch. never have. I only know it from the box.

Thats six nights now. seven if you count Sunday. six, no, seven, I keep landing on six because six is cleaner and I dont trust myself when the truth is the messier number and the messier number is the one that actually happened. normally Id throw the uncertain one out but Im not throwing anything out anymore, count the maybe too, six or seven either way is not once, is not twice, is a schedule. district page lists 101 fourth from the top, same order every visit, so its not me stumbling onto it different each time, its sitting there waiting in the same spot for me to open it at the same spot in my own routine. Coincidence? No. nobodys headlight breaks in exactly one place and stays broken exactly the same way for a week straight, that doesnt happen by accident, things that happen by accident dont keep a schedule better than I do.

The porch light at my dads place used to do something similar, not the same, but similar, it would catch bugs at the same time every June like the bugs kept a calendar, hes been gone four years and I still think about that light more than I think about him some nights, which I know how that sounds. anyway. patterns dont need a reason to hold, they just hold, and once youve watched something hold for six nights you cant unwatch it, they know that, theyre counting on people giving up around night four out of bordom and I am not built that way, never have been, ask anyone who knew me before any of this, though there isnt really anyone left to ask who'd give you a straight answer about it anyway.

didnt get tonights pull saved. loader hung nine seconds and by the time the frame settled the car was already three lengths past the pole, gone before I could grab it, first miss in six or seven nights and of course its the one I didnt catch. thats fine. thats not fine actually, IT IS NOT FINE, one clean miss is the whole experiment, but Ill take the loss and pull it again tomorrow same time same five cameras same order, 101 fourth from the top, headlight low on the left, PM 14.B11, watching for whether a missed night resets the count or whether it just keeps going without me either way.

The Fourteen Goes Dark

OMIT — CCTV 27, SBD 10 EB, PM 22.132, 0.1 mi E/O Rancho, CMS 14 dark, 23:35, red lights bottom right not a vehicle

Different feed tonight, not the 498 page, that ones still up if you want it, this is CCTV 27, SBD 10 eastbound, point one mile east of Rancho, and the thing on this one isnt a truck or a spacing between headlights, its the sign. CMS 14. The overhead gantry sits right in the foreground of the frame, big dark rectangle you can barely read against the sky glow, and when its working it throws up travel times, minutes to the 15, minutes to wherever, standard stuff, boring stuff, the kind of thing youre supposed to not even see anymore because your eye stops registering it after the first week. Mine doesnt stop. I pulled the frame at 23:35:06 and the sign was dark. Not off, dark, theres a difference and I know the difference because I have watched this exact structure light up and go black enough times now to know it doesnt do it on a maintenance schedule the way Caltrans would want you to believe if you called and asked, which I did, in June, and got a hold-music answer that didnt answer anything.

Four times now. Four times Ive pulled CCTV 27 at night and the fourteen was dark, and every one of those four times something was already sitting wrong in the frame before I even noticed the sign, a car stopped past the shoulder line, a set of red lights low and off to the side that dont belong to any vehicle I can account for, once nothing at all, which is its own kind of wrong when you know what that stretch of road usually looks like at that hour. Four, maybe five, Im going to go back through the archive folder and recount because I dont fully trust the fourth one, I logged it fast and I was tired. Doesnt matter tonight though. Tonight its four and the sign is dark and there are red lights bottom right of frame that are not a vehicle, I looked, I zoomed till the grain ate the pixels and it still isnt a vehicle shape.

People will say its a bulb. A whole panel doesnt go dark for a bulb, and it doesnt come back lit two nights later showing the exact same travel time it was showing four nights before that, static, frozen, like nobody updated it because nobody needed to because nobody was driving that number through the system, because the road wasnt actually being used the way the cameras want you to think it was. My neighbor asked me last week why I dont just drive out there and look at the thing in person instead of staring at a screen at midnight, and I didnt have a good answer for her, the real answer is that the camera is the point, not the sign, whoever's watching the sign through the camera is the thing Im actually trying to catch and you cant catch that by standing under it with your neck craned up like an idiot.

Anyway. The dog next door has started barking at the exact same three minutes every night now too, 11 something, I havent nailed the number down the way I nailed sixty two, give me time.

The Second Pole

two poles out front, one flag, one bare, no photo of the sign up close, should have gotten closer

There is a post office out past the county road, not my post office, I dont use it, I drove past it because the regular route was blocked and that is the only reason I have ever seen the building at all, and it has two poles out front, side by side, close enough together that somebody clearly meant for both of them to be doing something. One has a flag on it. Fine. Normal. Nobody photographs a flag doing its job. The other one is bare. Not fallen, not leaning, not waiting on a repair truck, just a pole standing next to a working pole with nothing on it at all, no rope, no clip, no faded strip of nylon caught at the top the way it goes when a flag gets torn off in wind, and I want to be careful here because precision is the whole point of this archive, the truck pages are still up if anyone wants to check my dates against this one, I keep the dates, I have always kept the dates.

A building does not get two poles by accident. You dont dig two holes and pour two footings for one flag. Somebody planned for a second one. Somebody put it up. And at some point somebody either took it down on purpose or it came down and nobody replaced it, and a government building, THIS building, with the sign right there and the mailbox right there and the little laminated hours taped inside the glass, does not casually let a flagpole sit empty for however long this one has been empty, they have a whole code about that, half staff, retirement of a flag, disposal, there is a whole procedure and none of it involves leaving the pole up and the flag just gone like the second flag was the part that stopped mattering.

There is a sign by the door. Not the post office sign, a smaller one, hand height, and it says THIS IS NOT A PARKING PLACE, all caps, like the government one printed underneath it in stop sign red isnt authority enough and somebody local had to add their own line to it. Fine, maybe that ones nothing, maybe thats just a guy who got sick of people blocking his ramp. I am not saying every sign is a message. I am saying that when you put a warning in front of an empty pole that used to hold a second flag, the warning reads different than it would in front of a store. Anyway. My father kept a coffee can of nails by the back door that he never once used for anything, just kept it, full, on the shelf, for eleven years I watched that can and I never saw him touch it. Anyway.

Wires cross the whole top of the frame, three lines, maybe four, I didnt count them exactly and I should have, thats on me, thats a mistake I dont usually make, but the poles are what I keep coming back to. Tuesday. No, it wasnt Tuesday, the detour was the day before, doesnt matter, the pole was still bare either day. Somebody died and this is where the flag would say so and it doesnt, thats the whole of it, thats what an empty pole next to a full one is for, and I am not going to pretend I dont know that just because I cant prove which somebody. Check your own post office next time you're out that way. See if both poles are doing something. Tell me if they arent.

The Van Is Always There

Everyone keeps asking about the van. this is not the van. this is what was parked in the van's spot by the time I got the camera up: the gray truck with the shell propped open, bed full of bags nobody touches, and behind it the white car they left on the grass behind their own caution tape. mailbox 3683, you can read it yourself. the van rotates out. the spot never does. I photographed it again.

Found this on my phone. Another one.

have you seen this man

blurred man

I keep seeing this man in places that do not connect. Parking structures. Walkups. Convenience stores. The edge of lots where there should not be anyone standing that still for that long.

He seems to appear more often when there is a camera nearby. When I notice him, he is already turned away or moving off like he knew exactly how long he could remain visible.

The last close interaction went bad fast and I am not going to write the whole thing out here. the frame above is from it. he came to the door wrapped to the chin and put his hand over the lens. the stamp on the frame says 2022. it was not 2022. either the clock was set wrong on purpose or the clock is another one of its lies. If you know who he is, send information only. Do not tell him you saw this page.

known details

seen at parking structures, convenience stores, and near apartment walkups

usually turns away before full face is visible. except once. the once is above

appears more often after dark or during camera blind spots

has been observed alone but may not be acting alone

do not approach

entry_0004 :: orbit map, or something like it

21:09 -- diagram found in the glove box -- five orbital groupings -- I did not put it there

21:09. diagram in the glove box. five groupings. I did not put it there.

Folded in half, tucked into the back page of the owner's manual like a bookmark. I have not opened that glove box in three years. two maybe. doesnt matter. It was not there before and now it is. Five groupings of circles, orange and blue, the small circles set inside or against the big ones, and they run left to right in an order. An order. Scatter does not line up.

I took it to the man at the hardware store because he doesnt ask the wrong questions. He looked at it maybe ten seconds and handed it back and said it reminded him of Caleb Dunn. I left. I still have the receipt from that trip. Hinges, $6.40. I keep receipts now.

People will say "pareidolia." Sure. Circles are circles. These circles were folded into MY car.

Five. I counted again this morning. still five.

14:26 -- Woman in red jacket at the bus stop near 31st. I passed once, doubled back after fuel, she was still there but facing the opposite direction. Could be normal. Felt rehearsed.

The Leg Changed

THAT IS NOT MY LEG. I have looked at this image for two days and it is not my leg. Someone sent this and labeled it as mine and the label is wrong. I know what my leg looks like. Those are not my jeans. I have never owned those shoes. and I have never stood on whatever catwalk that is, I do not know where that catwalk IS. the scar from the thing that happened in 2019 would not even show under jeans, which is exactly why they photographed it clothed. Whatever they are claiming this documents, this does not document me. This documents something they want me to believe is me. I am keeping it because it is evidence of the substitution.

the leg they claim is mine

The Stain Under the Wire

green building, wire into the seam, rust stain under it still wet in the middle, same two bikes as before, ACTIVA badge visible

The green building on the corner has a wire running down its face into the seam where the wall meets the next wall, black, thin, coming off the pole out front and crossing four or five other lines before it ever gets there, and directly under where it disappears into the seam theres a rust colored stain running down the white wall behind it, long, dried at the edges, still dark and wet looking in the middle where it hasnt finished drying yet, and I want that on the record before anything else because people always want to argue about the wire and never want to look at the stain, the stain is the part that proves something is moving through there on a schedule, wire doesnt rust a wall on its own, water does, and water only runs where somebody let it or routed it.

Two scooters are parked at the foot of that same wall against a green rail, nose out, the dark one in front with ACTIVA stamped right on the leg shield so theres no pretending I dont know the model, and the red and white one leaned in behind it close enough the mirrors are almost touching, same as last time, same two, not similar bikes, the same two, I would know the scuff pattern on that front fender anywhere at this point. In front of them, blocking most of the sidewalk, an old white car, boxy, older model, the kind that doesnt get made anymore, parked at an angle like whoever left it there wasnt planning to be gone long. Another white car sits further down, an SUV shape this time, and past that an auto rickshaw and a green trash bin at the corner where the alley opens up, and I know that bin, Ive walked past that bin more mornings than I havent.

Two kids are standing in the middle of the street near what might be a bicycle, I cant tell from here if theyre riding it or just standing next to it, and thats fine, theyre not the point, Im not writing about children, Im writing about the fact that the street behind them is lined with poles carrying more wire than that block could possibly need for two dozen apartments, loops of it, slack loops, hanging lower over the road every time I come back through here, four days ago it cleared the top of a car without anyone ducking and I am not saying it will keep dropping at that rate forever, I am saying it has never once gone up. My cousin used to say gravity doesnt make appointments. He said a lot of things. Anyway.

The buildings past the alley are three different colors, white, then a rust orange trim building, then something yellow further back, and none of them match, which is normal, thats just how a block gets built up over twenty years by different owners, I know that, I am not saying the colors mean anything, Im saying the wire doesnt care what color the building under it is and it still chose that green one to run down. Check the wall under your own meter box sometime. see if theres a mark there too, even a small one, even one you talked yourself out of noticing before. Mine had one. Thats a different post.

Three of Three

01:55 — cam three, frame 3 of 3, wash by the culvert, nothing in it, saved anyway

The camera in the wash is not the one on the pole out front, that one's camera two fifty seven, still up, still counting, I am not conflating the two of them, I know people do that, they read one page on this site and think the whole thing is one lens watching one street. This is a different camera. Reconyx. Bought it in March at the surplus place off the highway because the girl at the counter told me, unprompted, that it was the same model the county used for the wash monitoring after the flood advisory two years back, which I did not ask her, she just said it, and I noted that at the time and I am noting it again now.

It fired at 1:55 in the morning. Three frames. The counter in the corner of the image says so itself, M 3/3, meaning the sensor thinks it caught something three separate times before it gave up, and I have gone through all three, more than once, and there is nothing in any of them. No deer. No dog. No raccoon doing whatever a raccoon does in a wash at two in the morning. Just the stand of saplings by the culvert lit up white by the flash and the black behind them going nowhere I can print out and hand to somebody. The manual is specific about this. I read the whole thing twice. The sensor needs a heat differential AND motion, both, not one, so it isnt a leaf, it isnt wind moving a leaf, thats the answer people reach for and I did the reading so I dont have to reach for it.

Seventy six degrees that night, the overlay says, and I remember it was hot because the cooler kept cycling and I was up anyway, which is its own thing I already wrote about and wont get into again here. Three frames in under two minutes and then nothing until the battery check at dawn. The reset time on this model is eight seconds. Eight seconds between frames, minimum, the camera cant fire faster than that even if it wanted to. So whatever was standing in front of it stood there through two full resets. On purpose. Or it doesnt know what eight seconds is and just kept happening to still be there every time the window opened again, which I have genuinely tried to decide between and cannot. Checked the mud under the saplings the next morning anyway, out of habit. Nothing printed. No track. Fits either way honestly, doesnt rule either one out. They know the reset time better than I do apparently.

Anyway. The county reset the garbage route again. Thursday now instead of Friday, and before that it was Wednesday for a while, then back to Friday, now Thursday, third change this year and nobody at the county will explain why a route changes on its own schedule like that.

Six Flags, Wrong Colors

field note only, no photo, flags pulled before I got the camera outside

The flags are back. Six of them this time, not five, I recounted twice standing in the wet grass before the sprinklers came on and second guessing myself is not something I do about a thing I am looking directly at, so six, final, six flags in a line that does not follow the property markers and does not follow the sidewalk either, it cuts straight across both like whoever planted them didn't care what was actually under there, only that something needed to be marked before whatever comes next comes.

I know the color code. Orange is communications. Red is electric. Yellow is gas. Blue is water. Green is sewer. Pink is survey, temporary, means somebody is about to dig for a reason nobody explains to the house they're digging in front of. Two of my six were orange, fine, that tracks, theres a junction box two houses down and ive photographed it before, the photos are still up, not doing that argument again here. The other four were a color I dont have a name for. Not purple. Not white gone purple in the shade, ive seen that too, wasnt that. Closer to the color a bruise goes on day three, which I only know because I keep a different record for that, different page, dates dont overlap with this one and I checked.

Called the number stamped small on the flag stake, easy to miss unless you get down on a knee in your own yard with a flashlight, which I did, obviously, or I wouldnt know the print was there at all. Woman on the line said no locate request on file for my address, nothing scheduled, nothing pending, couldnt explain the stake or the four colors either, said maybe a neighbor requested and the crew flagged wrong, happens sometimes, said it like that was supposed to close it out. The county moved brush pickup to thursdays back in spring and I still put the bin out the old day half the time. Anyway. Four flags in a color nobody on a phone bank has a name for either, planted by someone with information about my own dirt that I dont have.

This was before the mailbox thing. I want that on the record, before, not after, I keep getting the order backwards when I say it out loud so writing it down now while the order is still right in my head. wednesday. no. it was a weekday, doesnt matter which one, matters that it was before. They were gone by ten. Not pulled and left in a pile the way the last crew did it. just gone, stakes and all, and the grass under where the fourth one stood is flat in a way grass doesnt go flat from a stake that thin, I checked, got back down on my knees and checked, and I dont have a photo of the flat because I went for the flashlight instead of the phone the first time, and by the time I came back out with the phone somebody had already put a sprinkler head right over the spot. Wasnt there before. Im almost done arguing with myself about whether it was.
